Inova Alexandria Hospital - Fact Sheet
Inova Alexandria Hospital is a 318-bed not-for-profit community hospital that has been serving Alexandria, Virginia, and its surrounding communities for more than 130 years.
Inova Alexandria Hospital offers a full range of acute care, emergency and ambulatory services and the latest medical technology in the areas of women’s, oncology, cardiovascular, interventional radiology, surgical and stroke services. Other services offered at the hospital include critical care, vascular, diagnostic imaging, gastroenterology, rehabilitation, orthopedics, and high-risk pregnancy services.
The hospital has consistently received The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations’ Gold Seal of Approval for stroke care and was one of the first facilities in the Washington metro area to receive the Commission’s Primary Stroke Center certification.
In 2006, the organization became the first facility in Northern Virginia to install a Varian Trilogy™ system to deliver Image Guided Radiation Therapy and stereotactic radiotherapy for its cancer patients. The Trilogy system's linear accelerator allows the machine to rotate around patients to deliver radiation treatments from nearly any angle, targeting tumors and reducing the amount of radiation exposure patients typically experience.
Over the next two years, the hospital will be investing more than $84 million to enhance its emergency, cardiac, vascular, surgical and laboratory services as part of the 2010 Project. The Project is a vast reconfiguration and expansion plan that will enhance the hospital’s existing health care services and improve patient access.
Inova Alexandria Hospital has also received the Making Medicine Mercury Free Award from the Hospitals for a Healthy Environment program for eliminating the use of mercury and improving the healthcare environment.
